The 8th Annual Celebrate Cambrian Festival 

Date: Sunday, August 25

Come and join a day filled with fun featuring local live entertainment, organized children activities, a resource fair, local District 9 restaurants selling food, and inflatable bounce houses, obstacle course, and water slides! PRNS community centers are bursting with programs, activities and special events for everyone. There are a wide variety of classes, sports programs, fitness classes, therapeutic programs, and special events for individuals of all ages.

The Camden Community Center, home to Councilmember Rocha’s Annual Celebrate Cambrian Event is conveniently located in the heart of Council District 9, just off Highways 85 and 17/880!

 The San Jose Downtown Association presents free summer outdoor movie classics. Take advantage of San Jose’s gorgeous weather by grabbing a lawn chair or blanket and enjoying free films under the stars in four of downtown’s central neighborhoods: San Pedro Square Market, the Historic District/Post St., St. James Park and SoFA District/South First St. Pre-screening entertainment changes with the season, starting at 7 p.m.  See for more details.

 Dine Downtown San Jose:

Three courses, one prix fixe price June 21-30

New and regular customers alike can savor the tastes of Dine Downtown June 21-30. More than 20 restaurants will offer three-course meals including appetizer or salad, entre and dessert at a prix fixe price.

For a preview, Dishcrawl will host a Dine Downtown “Neighborfood” event Wednesday, June 19, 5:00PM-8:00PM, that includes tastes from eight participating restaurants. Entry tickets are $5 and available at

For the first time, Dine Downtown will be presented by a sponsor – Sysco, the global leader in selling, marketing and distributing food products to restaurants and other customers who prepare meals away from home. For each meal prepared during Dine Downtown, Sysco will donate $1 to San Jose’s Loaves and Fishes Family Kitchen. Also, Open Table will again take Dine Downtown reservations.

 Food Ware Information Session

Attend the Food Ware Information Session to learn more about the City’s proposed phaseout of Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam food ware, and learn about foam free replacement containers and costs. Register a week in advance and receive two additional raffle tickets for you chance to win $50 worth of alternative packaging. Email with the subject line: Attend Information Session. Make sure to include your name, the name of your food establishment, the address and the number of people attending.

National Night Out

National Night Out is a crime and drug prevention event that is sponsored nationally by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the San Jose Police Department. Your neighborhood is invited to participate with many other neighborhoods across the country in celebration of National Night Out on Tuesday evening, August 6, 2013.

National Night Out is designed to:

Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness.

Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts.

Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships.

Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Register your neighborhood for this year’s event today. Registration is free and gives police and other city representatives an opportunity to attend local events as time and circumstances permit. You do NOT have to be a current Neighborhood Watch neighborhood to participate. National Night Out is for everyone! Register now and begin planning your event as soon as possible.
