Coca-Cola Scholarship Program

Each year, 150 Coca-Cola Scholars are selected to receive a $20,000 scholarship through the Coca-Cola Scholars Program. It is an achievement-based scholarship awarded to graduating high school seniors. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, as well as their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities. With the 29th class in 2017, the Foundation has provided over 5,850 Coca-Cola Scholars with more than $63 million in educational support. Apply now.

Camden Community Center Landscaping

The Camden Community Center is undergoing some landscape changes this month.  There will still be access to the center, and work sites will be secured for safety.  These areas will be fenced off and completed. The scope of work includes relandscaping and planting of vegetation in various areas visible to the parking lot, including installation or ornamental grass and decorative pavers.

Update on Fire Station 13

In mid-July, personnel of Fire Station 13 were temporarily relocated to alternate stations to allow for maintenance cleaning and environmental testing. A series of tests were conducted over several weeks in coordination with various city departments on the advice of an environmental health expert. Although Station 13 was temporarily closed from mid-July through end of August, services to the community remained uninterrupted as Engine 13, Water Tender 13, Truck 13, and Battalion 13 were available for response from adjoining stations. The decision to conduct tests was cautionary and for the health and safety of its employees, and final tests did not indicate a need for any mitigating steps. The target date of re-opening was end of August, and crews began responding from Station 13 on August 30.  The Fire Department thanks the community for their patience and understanding throughout this process.  Any questions can be directed to the Fire Department at 408-794-7000.

Host a Neighborhood Watch Meeting

Did you know... That most residential burglaries occur during daylight hours?  How burglars can tell at a glance which homes are easy targets?  What to do if you see a suspicious person on your street? That crime rates in Neighborhood Watch communities can be greatly reduced through the simple, common sense measures you can learn by attending a Neighborhood Watch meeting?

SJPD is anxious to help residents implement Neighborhood Watch in their own neighborhoods. For more information or to set up a meeting, call 408-277-4133.

Dispose of Unused/Unwanted Medications

Do you have unused or expired medicine? Don’t rush to flush!  When unused or expired medicines are disposed of down the drain or flushed down the toilet, they flow through the sanitary system to the Wastewater Facility, which was not designed to remove all pharmaceutical compounds. Trace amounts may pass through the Wastewater Facility and be released into the San Francisco Bay. Do your part by safely disposing of your unused or expired medicines for free at a drop-off bin location.
