Civil Service Commission

Applications are now being accepted to fill a Civil Service Commission vacancy:

One (1) Attorney-At-Law Seat with a Term Ending November 30, 2018

The Civil Service Commission makes recommendations to the City Council and the City Manager and conducts investigations concerning the administration of personnel in the Classified Service. The Commission acts as an appellate body for personnel decisions affecting City employees and applicants, reviews and recommends changes to Civil Service regulations, and appoints members to the City Council Salary Setting Commission. The Attorney-at-law serves as the Hearing Presiding Officer. One member must be an attorney-at-law licensed to practice in the State of California and have been so for at least five (5) years. Applications may be obtained from the Office of the City Clerk, located at 200 East Santa Clara Street, Wing Building, 2nd Floor, San Jose, CA 95113, or you may apply online. Applications are due no later than Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 5:00 PM.

Library and Early Education Commission Vacancy

Applications are now being accepted to fill a Library and Early Education Commission vacancy:

The Library and Early Education Commission studies, reviews, evaluates and makes recommendations to the City Council regarding existing or proposed library facilities, programs, operations, services and financing. Bay Area Bike Share

Bay Area Bike Share, the region’s bike sharing system, is evolving from a successful pilot to a robust transportation option and will grow from 700 to 7,000 bikes in San José, San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley and Emeryville. In San José, the program will grow from the current 130 bikes to more than 1000.  More bikes mean more bike share stations. The locations for the additional bikes are being developed with input from residents and local businesses through an online station suggestion portal where site visitors can immediately suggest locations for bike share stations throughout the community.  Community Action & Pride Grant Applications Now Being Accepted

Qualifying neighborhood associations within the boundaries of San Jose can apply for a Community Action & Pride (CAP) Grant for Cycle 29. Grant funding amounts range from $300 to $1500 per organization.  Applications are due no later than Friday, July 31, 2015 at 4:00 PMThe City will hold a CAP Grant workshop outlining the application process, grant process, and any changes in Cycle 29 on Thursday, July 16, 2015 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at San Jose City Hall, Wing Room 118-120. City of San José Now Accepting Online Picnic Reservations

The City of San José is now accepting picnic reservations online San Jose parks offer a variety of fun environments to accommodate your special picnic gathering.  Picnic reservations can be made online or in person at the Park Office at Leininger Center in Kelley Park, 1300 Senter Road, Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM.  Browse all reservable parks, or visit for more information.

The San Jose Police Department's Neighborhood Watch program focuses on informing the community how to discourage, deter and prevent crimes such as burglary, auto theft, car break-ins, and personal crimes.  Issues such as vandalism, graffiti, drug dealing and gang activity are also addressed when applicable.
