As we enter the summer season and wrap up the fiscal year here at City Hall, I want to take this time to share that the City of San Jose is hiring to fill a variety of vacancies within its many departments. Whether you are looking for full-time, part-time, seasonal, or internship work, the City of San Jose offers many ways to get involved in the dynamic world of public service. Register Now for National Night Out

National Night Out, held on August 1, is a crime and drug prevention event sponsored nationally by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the San José Police Department.

Neighborhoods can now register to host their own NNO events online at www.sjpd.org until July 21.  NNO events are an opportunity to heighten crime and drug awareness, support local anti-crime efforts, strengthen neighborhoods and police/community spirit, and send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.


San Jose Public Library Needs Volunteers

San Jose Public Library is currently recruiting for volunteers:

PAR Adult Literacy Tutors: Help adult learners improve their reading. For more information, visit sjpl.org/partutor.

Public Notice: Temporary Closure of Paul Moore Basketball Courts

Due to temporary resurfacing of the basketball courts at Paul Moore Park, the courts will be closed with a temporary chain link fence during June 9-July 8.  The temporary construction will not impact any sports play just informative awareness.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Citywide Sports Facility Office at 408-794-6527.


Public Notice: Street Sealing Project

On May 2, 2017 City Council approved the construction contract 8381 – 2017 Street Sealing Project to Graham Contractors, Inc.:

Los Gatos Almaden Rd between Leigh Ave to Harwood Rd Construction will start on 06/25/2017 and end on 07/24/2017

7 days prior to construction the Contractor will place message signs informing motorists of the future project and to expect delays. The contractor will provide residents, business, and schools two written notifications. The first notification will be mailed at least 7 days prior to the start of work. The second notification will be hand delivered by the contractor 48 hours before constructions. For questions or more information, call 408-794-1961.

Would you like to be a force for real, positive change in your community? Would you like to see your efforts grow to benefit generations to come? Join Our City Forest’s AmeriCorps team. Help make Silicon Valley a greener, healthier place to live, work, and play. Family Camp Now Accepting Reservations

Family Camp at Yosemite is now accepting reservations at http://familycampreservations.com/.

Located in the heart of the Sierras near Yosemite National Park just east of Groveland, California, Family Camp is situated on 47 acres of leased land from the U.S. Forest Service. Join the Adopt-A-Highway Program

The Caltrans Adopt-A-Highway Program provides an avenue for individuals, organizations, or businesses to help maintain sections of roadside within California's State Highway System.

The Adopt-A-Highway program, which began in 1989, has been one of the truly successful government-public partnerships of our time. More than 120,000 Californians have cleaned and enhanced over 15,000 shoulder-miles of roadside.  Participation can include removing litter (work frequency varies with location), planting and establishing trees or wildflowers, removing graffiti and controlling vegetation.  To learn more, please visit: http://www.dot.ca.gov/maintenance/adopt-a-highway/index.html.

Do you have junk, such as old mattresses, sofas, refrigerators, or tires, cluttering up your home or garage? San José residents in homes with garbage cart service (single-family homes, most townhomes and mobile homes) can schedule two free junk pickup appointments per year of three large items each.
