 Baby Falcon Naming Contest

Help name the baby peregrine falcons living on San Jose City Hall! Clara and Fernando El Cohete’s eggs have hatched, and SanJose’s young falcon fans have an opportunity to help name the new chicks.

  Top Dad’s Essay Contest 

Do you have a GREAT dad or father figure (uncle, grandfather, stepfather, brother, teacher, or other great role model)? If you’re between the ages of 5 and 17, Building Peaceful Families, in partnership with the San Francisco 49ers and the Santa Clara County Office of Education, invites you to nominate your dad/father figure for the annual Top Dads Award.

 Virgin America Launching Service from SJC

On May 1, Virgin America will begin offering four daily flights from San Jose to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)!

 "SISTER to SISTER: Celebrating Asian & Pacific Islander Women of Tomorrow" Leadership Conference 

AARS Asian American Recovery Services, Inc. is hosting it's 18th annual SISTER to SISTER: Celebrating Asian & Pacific Islander Women of Tomorrow Leadership Conference on Thursday, May 9, 2013 from 8:30AM-4:00PM at the San Jose Masonic Center

They are looking for youth participants and sponsors. The conference is FREE for the girls.

The American Cancer Society Relay for Life is a life-changing event that helps our community celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease.

To date, the Relay for Life of Cambrian has celebrated four Relays and raised over $1 million.

 11th Annual YWCA Silicon Valley Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®

Find something for everyone at the book sale at Cambrian Branch Library on

Community Room of the Cambrian Library, 1780 Hillsdale Avenue, San Jose

Select from about 4,000 items ranging from DVDs, CDs, children’s books, non-fiction, cookbooks, textbooks, fiction, and audiobooks. Most books are priced at 50 cents to $1.00; and DVDs, CDs and audiobooks are $2. Individually-priced premium items can be found on five Specials tables. 

At 3:00pm, books are sold by the bag full for $5 (bag provided).  Cash and checks accepted.  Sponsored by the Friends of the Cambrian Library, all proceeds benefit library programs and services.

Thank you to the Elks Lodge #522 (located on Alma Ave.)  

for leading monthly highway clean-ups along Highways 85 and 87.

After over twelve years of service it has been estimated that the Elks volunteers have helped to remove over 2.5 tons of garbage and litter from our roadways.

Their next clean up is Saturday, April 20 (The day of the Great American Litter Pick Up)!

Thank you to the Erikson Neighborhood Association 

  for repairing the trail fence between Chynoweth Ave and Cilker Park.

Thirteen neighborhood volunteers along with staff from Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services repaired 100% of the fence rails and posts. They also fixed blight, and improved safety near the steep banks of the percolation ponds.
