The Camden Community Center Pool is Now Open!

On Monday, June 15th, the Camden Community Center celebrated the grand opening of its newly renovated pool. Councilmember Donald Rocha, Parks, Recreation & Neighborhood Services, City staff, Camden staff, and children gathered for the official ribbon-cutting ceremony. Kids were the first to jump in and test out the brand new pool!

BE THE CHANGE 2015 Youth Conference

Each year, in an effort to empower youth across the City of San José, the Youth Commission hosts a city-wide Youth Conference.  Now in its eighth year, the 2015 Youth Conference, entitled “Be the Change,” aims to inform, inspire and empower youth to become agents of change in their community.  On Friday, June 26, 2015, youth throughout the City will participate in the 8th Annual Youth Conference where they will learn from workshops, a shark-tank style competition, motivational speakers, and interaction with peers from across the City.  Learn more about the conference and register now!


Healthier Kids Foundation

Children ages 0-18 years old can receive FREE vision screenings at the Healthier Kids Foundation.  Undetected vision problems can lead to difficulty with learning to read and social development.  Healthier Kids Foundation uses a digital photo optic camera to conduct vision screenings. Downtown Parking Board Vacancy

Applications are now being accepted to fill the following vacancy on the Downtown Parking Board:

One (1) At-Large Representative with Term Ending June 30, 2016

About the Commission: The Downtown Parking Board serves as a public forum for the discussion of downtown parking issues. The Board's mission statement is to "create and maintain a downtown public parking system that provides available and accessible parking." The Board reviews, evaluates, and makes recommendations to the City Council regarding the City's downtown parking programs, the health and financial stability of the parking fund, and the use of parking revenues.

Summer Reading Challenge

San José Public Library challenges everyone to spend time reading, learning, exploring, and energizing this summer.  Prevent the "summer slide!" Teachers and literacy experts agree that reading for 20 minutes per day during the summer and staying active and engaged in educational programs help students retain their skills and return to school ready to learn. Participate in the Summer Reading Challenge online or visit your local library.  Apps for Apple and Android devices are available.

San José Public Library Expanding to Six Days per Week

San José Public Library branches will again be open six days per week beginning Saturday, July 11th. Based on current daily usage, SJPL expects the two additional days of service will create significant weekly benefits for the community including: 36,000 more customers being able to use the Library; 7,000 additional youth served afterschool; 90,000 more library items borrowed or renewed; 7,600 more uses of public computers; and 140 more library literacy and engagement programs offered across the city. Family Nature Series

The Open Space Authority of Santa Clara Valley welcomes adults and children to participate in its free Summer Family Series! Sign up for one or more sessions in this five-day series at the Rancho Canada del Oro Open Space Reserve. Each child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and space is limited to 15 children per sessionRSVP is required

The American Cancer Society San Jose Discovery Shop is in need of volunteers and donations!  The San Jose Discovery Shop helps support the fight against cancer through the sale of high quality, gently used, donated merchandise. 

DONATE: The San Jose Discovery Shop, located at 1103 Branham Lane in San Jose, accepts donations such as clothing, accessories, jewelry, furniture, artwork, antiques, collectibles, and other household items.  The Shop cannot accept major appliances, mattresses, or intimate apparel.

Become a Volunteer Tutor for Partners in Reading

Want to make a permanent impact on someone’s life? Become a volunteer tutor for Partners in Reading. Work one-on-one or with a small group of English speaking adults who are eager to improve their literacy skills. Tutoring takes place at branches of the San José Public Library.

  • Orientation: Wednesday, July 8, 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM
  • Training: Saturday, July 11 & Saturday, July 18, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM

City of San José Now Accepting Online Picnic Reservations

The City of San José is now accepting picnic reservations online San Jose parks offer a variety of fun environments to accommodate your special picnic gathering.  Picnic reservations can be made online or in person at the Park Office at Leininger Center in Kelley Park, 1300 Senter Road, Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM.  Browse all reservable parks, or visit www.sjparks.org for more information.  


Walk a Mile in Her Shoes

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes to raise awareness about sexual assault and domestic violence while raising funds to provide critical support services to survivors. Join men from all walks of life as they come together and walk a mile in women's shoes to demonstrate their commitment to ending violence in Silicon Valley. Host a Neighborhood Watch Meeting

The San Jose Police Department's Neighborhood Watch program focuses on informing the community how to discourage, deter and prevent crimes such as burglary, auto theft, car break-ins, and personal crimes.  Issues such as vandalism, graffiti, drug dealing and gang activity are also addressed when applicable.
