Dear Neighbor,

I’m pleased to share some exciting opportunities for leadership and civic engagement in our government. Currently, there are several City of San Jose Boards and Commissions vacancies to be filled.

I’ve always stressed how important boards and commissions are to our community and to my role as an elected representative. I believe that citizens, not just elected officials and public employees, are responsible for good government and effective decision-making. Boards and commissions were established to advise the Mayor and Council and provide important and ongoing input into policies that affect our city.  They also enable citizens to participate in San Jose's government processes at a deeper level and provide an opportunity for the many neighborhoods within San Jose to be heard.

Serving on a board or commission can be an extremely fulfilling opportunity to learn about what goes into our city’s policy-making process and to give back to the civic process we are all a part of.  I thank those who have volunteered their time to serve our city in this way.
